Deeside set for internet upgrade

Slow broadband could soon be a thing of the past as hi-tech fibre optic finally makes its way to the Deeside area.

The technology will make it to more than 7,300 buildings in the region from the spring of 2015.

It’s the latest in the Scottish Government's £410 million “Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband” programme.

Banchory is one of the 67 locations to be selected for this phase across thirteen local authority areas in Scotland.

The work will begin in the spring of next year and will deliver speeds of up to 80Mbps — two to five times faster than the current average speed.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said in a statement: “It’s fantastic news that more communities and businesses around the country will soon begin to see the benefits of high quality digital connectivity, making them more economically viable in the long term.

“Today marks another important milestone for the Digital Scotland Superfast Broadband partnership.”

A full list of locations chosen for the work can be found on Digital Scotland's website.
