Aberdeenshire unemployment lowest in Scotland

Unemployment levels in Aberdeenshire are once again the lowest in Scotland and among the lowest in the United Kingdom, according to a report released today.

Around 5,000 people in Aberdeenshire are out of work, which is 3.3 per cent of the workforce.

Only Shetland came close with the same 3.3 per cent figure, while the worst performers were East Ayrshire and Dundee, both with 10.5 per cent.
Across Scotland as a whole the figure is 7.1 per cent, and it sits at 6.8 per cent across the entire United Kingdom.

This is the first time in six years that the total UK jobless figure has dropped below two million.

But the Aberdeenshire figure has marginally increased, rising from 3.2 per cent this time last month.
