Recycling: Food waste system coming to Deeside

The new scheme is set to start on Monday.
Households in Deeside will be receiving new caddies to collect food waste this weekend as part of a Scottish Government initiative.

12,000 households across Banchory, Midmar, Tarland, Torphins, Aboyne, Ballater and Braemar will also be sent information booklets as the new system comes into effect on Monday.

The caddies will come with free decomposable liners, which store both cooked and raw food.

Kerbside recycling pickups of green outdoor caddies will take place every second week.

The programme is part of the Scottish Government’s Zero Waste Plan, which seeks to cut Scotland’s waste-to-landfill percentage to five per cent by 2025.

The last region to switch to the new scheme, Kincardine and Mearns, will do so in March next year.
